David Stones - Goughy & Ghoulash

By Samantha Shilton

Name: David Stones

Age: 24

Nickname: Stonesy

Position at club: I’m a committee member, and I play for the second team usually. Oh, and I’m a coach as well, forgot all about that for a minute then, I’m the Under-17s coach.

How long have you been connected with the club: Pretty much all my life. I’m from Mirfield which is not too far away so it’s always been very convenient for me to play.

How did this come about: Through my parents.

Favourite cricketer: Well, because I don’t really support any particular team I’ve never had a favourite player, but I have always noticed Darren Gough as one of the better and more charismatic players so I’d say he was my favourite.

Favourite sportsman/woman: If I follow any sport it’d be football, but there are so many players I could name. I wouldn’t like to say David Beckham, even though I recognise that he’s done a lot for the game with his academies and whatnot. But I can’t think of anyone else who really stands out so I’ll go with Beckham.

Favourite TV programme: Coupling.

What music do you like: Indie describes my taste best, I think. The last gig I went to was to see Snow Patrol recently, and they were absolutely fantastic. It was a present actually and I wasn’t that bothered about seeing them at first because I didn’t think they’d be much of a live act, but the lead singer came into the crowd and they put on a great performance.

Favourite film: The Shawshank Redemption, it’s amazing.

If you could invite any 3 people in the world over for dinner, who would you choose and why: I’m going to choose all comedians for this I think, maybe Peter Kay, Lee Evans and Paddy McGuinness.

What type of food would you serve: My favourite is Hungarian Ghoulash, so I’d serve that and hope they liked it as well.

What drinks would you serve: Some sort of beer, my favourite is Leffy. I think that would go quite well with the Ghoulash.

Best attribute in people, or particularly cricketers: Well, if we’re talking about the boys that I’m coaching it would have to be the ability to stay quiet and listen to instructions. A lot of them can’t stay quiet and are constantly messing around, so it’s nice to have some of them that can stay quiet and that want to learn.

Worst attribute: When people aren’t committed to the game, they just turn up because their friends do and they’re not bothered about playing in the games.

What is your biggest pet peeve: Sneezing, really loud sneezing is awful.

Highlight of your working life: I work in the construction industry, and I’ve just done my first job by myself, and made a nice little profit out of it. So that is the best thing that has happened so far, but I’m hoping that it will snowball and there’ll be many other jobs that can return the same sort of profit.

What is your favourite thing about summer: Beer gardens, and being able to sit out in the sun, relax, and be with friends.

If you were stranded on a desert island, what one thing would you have with you: I’ll be boring and just take my iPod.
